Good evening!
The South Sydney Rabbitohs will don an all-white jersey when they take on the Brisbane Broncos tonight to honour former Rabbitohs and Queensland forward Jai Arrow.
The 30-year-old retired last month after announcing he had been diagnosed with motor neurone disease. The only colour on the jersey will be Arrow’s name in green and the player’s numbers in black.
Bravo South Sydney.

“Of course, it is unfortunate as well, what happened to Omar [Artan], the referee from Somalia. But… we don’t control everything. We try, we will discuss, we will speak, we will see. Maybe sometimes it is good as well to just, you know, chill, relax. We work on everything, we try to solve everything. Sometimes to immediately start screaming and shouting has the opposite effect of finding a solution.”

🎾 Serena Williams’ return to professional tennis has a spanner in the works, with her doubles partner Victoria Mboko injuring her knee in the singles competition at the Queens Club. Williams, a 23-time grand slam winner, entered the doubles side of the grass-court tournament with Mboko for her first pro appearance in nearly four years. Mboko slipped and fell on the grass in her singles match against Karolina Pliskova and had to retire, allowing Pliskova to proceed to the quarter-finals. Mboko and Williams are set to play their next match overnight (AEST).

🏏 English cricket captain Ben Stokes has been dropped from the lineup for the second Test of England’s three-Test series against New Zealand after an altercation at a London nightclub. Stokes and fast bowler Gus Atkinson broke the team's curfew while celebrating their win in the first Test, and an altercation followed that left a security guard needing stitches. Atkinson also missed selection for the second Test. In a statement, the England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed the pair had been dropped “given the ongoing investigation”. Joe Root will captain the side, with batter Jordan Cox and fast bowler Jofra Archer now slated to appear.

Gout Gout finishes sixth in Diamond League debut against world’s best
Australian sprinting sensation Gout Gout made his Diamond League debut this morning (AEST) in Oslo, Norway, finishing sixth in the men’s 200m behind Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo.
The Diamond League is athletics’ top international series.
Here’s what to know.
Gout Gout
The 18-year-old athlete, who has a personal best of 19.67 seconds, finished in 20.60 seconds behind a field of more experienced senior athletes. Botswana’s Tebogo ran a season’s best time of 19.84 to win the race ahead of South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile (20.12) and Trinidad and Tobago’s Jereem Richards (20.5).
Gout told media after the race: “There’s definitely a lot more room for me to improve, but I have plenty of time on my side. There’s always pressure on me but all I do is try my best and keep focusing on just having fun.”
Tebogo cautioned that Gout should take his time in making the jump to senior racing, telling Citius Magazine he “still has a long way to go.”
“He should by all means play with his age mates where he is a bit more comfortable because the more he runs, the more he pushes and the more injuries he is going to get,” Tebogo said.

Aussie pole vaulter Kurtis Marschall claimed his second Diamond League victory this season, clearing a height of 5.82 metres to edge out Norway's Sondre Guttormsen and the U.S’ Sam Kendricks. It comes days after Marschall handed Sweden’s double Olympic champion, Armand Duplantis, his first loss in more than 1,000 days at the weekend’s Diamond League meet in Stockholm.
Other notable results included Ky Robinson setting a new Australian record of 12:50.82 in the men’s 5000m. Robinson finished eighth but lowered a record set by Craig Mottram in 2004. Meanwhile, 17-year-old American Cooper Lutkenhaus produced an impressive upset in the men’s 800m, beating reigning Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi by one hundredth of a second.

The Socceroos begin their World Cup campaign on Sunday. Here’s your guide to their group stage opponents.
The 2026 World Cup kicks off on Friday across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Australia are back for a sixth straight tournament and will compete in Group D.
Here's who the Socceroos will face in the group stage.
The Socceroos
Starting with our team. Australia is ranked 27th in the world. Coach Tony Popovic took charge in September 2024 and has set a quarter-final as his target. That target would be new ground. Australia's best result is reaching the round of 16, which was achieved in 2006 and again in 2022.
The Socceroos’ 2022 run ended with a 2-1 loss to eventual champions Argentina. Popovic’s 26-player squad includes 17 players set for their first World Cup. Among them are Cristian Volpato and Tete Yengi, who both debuted for Australia in last week's 1-1 draw with Switzerland. Yengi marked the occasion with a goal.
Thirty-five-year-old attacker Mathew Leckie, playing in his fourth World Cup, is the only man in this squad who scored in Qatar, netting the winner against Denmark in the group stage. Goalkeeper Mat Ryan will captain the side, also in his fourth World Cup. Other players who will bring much-needed experience to the side include midfielder Jackson Irvine and defender Harry Souttar.
Türkiye
Australia will kick off their World Cup campaign against Türkiye, ranked 22nd in the world. The teams have only played each other twice, in a 2004 friendly series where Türkiye won both matches.
Türkiye missed the 2022 World Cup and is back at the tournament for the first time since 2002. Third place in 2002 remains the country’s best-ever finish at a men’s World Cup. Coach Vincenzo Montella has also built a young side. Real Madrid playmaker Arda Güler and Juventus forward Kenan Yıldız are the headline names, with Inter Milan captain Hakan Çalhanoğlu in midfield.
The match is at BC Place in Vancouver and will kick off at 2pm (AEST) on Sunday 14 June.
The U.S.
Tournament co-hosts the U.S. are the group's top-ranked side at 17th in the world. Australia have faced them four times for one win, one draw and two losses.
The most recent meeting came in October, when the U.S. fought back to win 2-1. In 2022, the U.S. reached the round of 16, where they were beaten 3-1 by the Netherlands. Their best finish was third place at the first World Cup in 1930. It is also Australia's first World Cup meeting with a host nation since 1974.
The U.S. are coached by former Argentine international Mauricio Pochettino, and their star player is AC Milan forward Christian Pulisic.
This is expected to be the Socceroos’ toughest group-stage fixture and the earliest start for Australian viewers, kicking off at 5am (AEST) at Lumen Field in Seattle on Saturday 20 June.
Paraguay
Australia have never lost to Paraguay across five meetings, with two wins and three draws. Their coach is part of that history. Popovic scored against Paraguay in 2006 in his final match for Australia, a 1-1 draw. At their most recent meeting in Sydney in 2010, Australia won 1-0.
Ranked 41st in the world, Paraguay also missed 2022 and is back for the first time since 2010. The quarter-finals that year remain their best run.
Argentine coach Gustavo Alfaro favours a compact defensive setup. Their most familiar name is Miguel Almirón, who played for the English Premier League’s Newcastle United and is now at Atlanta United.
Australia faces them last at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara at 12pm AEST on Friday, 26 June. Notably, Levi’s Stadium is where this year’s Super Bowl was played.
