Good evening!

Watch out golf world!

16-year-old Charlie Woods has won his first American Junior Golf Association title.

For those not familiar, Charlie is the son of one of the greatest to play golf, Tiger Woods.

Also, itโ€™s that time of week where I remind you to do your footy tips. TDAโ€™s video editor Orla is still leading our office tipping comp (by a margin of four tips) but I am slowly reeling her in.

Stat of the day

The number of years since the Oklahoma City Thunder have reached the NBA Finals. The Thunder, led by MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, will return to the finals this year after defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves 124-94 in Game 5 and becoming Western Conference champions. They will play the winner of the Eastern Conference finals series between the New York Knicks and the Indiana Pacers. The Pacers lead the best-of-seven series 3-1 with Game 5 set to tip off tomorrow at 10:00am (AEST).ย

Quote of the day

"I always feel guilty for the performance of the team since the first game I was here. The boos maybe is something we need because every game we lost in the Premier League the fans were always there. I felt when we finished every time the supporters were with us. Let's see for next season."
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, after his side were booed off the field in Kuala Lumpur following a 1-0 loss to ASEAN All-Stars. The result comes after a historically poor season for the decorated club, which saw them finish 15th in the English Premier League and lose the Europa League final to Spurs.ย

Random fact of the day

In an English Premier League match between Sunderland and Liverpool in October 2009, Sunderlandโ€™s Darren Bent scored a goal when the ball deflected off a Liverpool-branded beach ball that had been thrown onto the pitch, into the back of the net. The goal was allowed to stand.

๐Ÿšดโ€โ™‚๏ธ At the Giro dโ€™Italia, Mexican cyclist Isaac del Toro extended his overall race lead after winning stage 17. The 21-year-old now leads the race by 41 seconds, ahead of Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz. The race has four stages remaining, including two gruelling mountain routes on stage 18 and stage 19. Australian riders Jay Vine and Luke Plapp were both forced to withdraw from the race following crashes on yesterdayโ€™s stage.

โšฝ After finishing fourth in the Premier League, Chelsea ended its season on a high note by winning the Europa Conference League final. Chelsea conceded the first goal of the match but scored four in the second half to beat Spanish club Real Betis 4-1. England star Cole Palmer, who had two assists for Chelsea, was named player of the match. The Conference League is the third-rung European tournament, below the Europa League andย  the top-tier Champions League.ย

Womenโ€™s Aussie rules players to protest cuts to Victorian gender equity and inclusion programs

Womenโ€™s Aussie rules players in Victoria will wear red armbands this weekend to protest the stateโ€™s recent budget cuts to programs that promoted gender equity and inclusion in sport.ย

Not All Clubs Media has spearheaded the protest through social media.ย

As the AFLW season does not begin until August, the protest will involve players at the community level.ย

What happened

Treasurer Jaclyn Symes handed down the Victorian state budget last week, which saw two programs, the Office for Women in Sport and Recreation (OWSR) and the Preventing Violence Through Sport Grants Program, cut.ย

The OWSR was responsible for running the Change Our Game Program, which sought to increase the participation and visibility of women in sport.ย

The Preventing Violence Through Sport Grants Program gave funding to support community sport groups to address gender-based violence.ย

What they said

Not All Clubs Media said in a statement: "These initiatives and programs were among the first of their kind โ€“ designed to make sport safe, more inclusive, and more equal for women and gender diverse people. Without them, we risk going backwards โ€” towards more harm, more silence, and fewer women and gender diverse people in the game."

Blues outclass Maroons to seal Game One victory in Brisbane

The NSW Blues have begun their campaign to win back-to-back State of Origin series with an 18-6 win over the Queensland Maroons in Brisbane last night.ย

Meanwhile, Game Three of the Womenโ€™s State of Origin series is set for tonight.

What happened

After last yearโ€™s thrilling series decider in Brisbane, the Blues and Maroons met at the same battleground to open the 2025 series.ย

The 80 minutes that followed saw the Blues outplay the Maroons in almost every statistical category. They made fewer errors, conceded fewer penalties, completed more sets, and (crucially) scored more points. The final score was 18-6, with NSW scoring four tries to Queenslandโ€™s one.ย

In what looked to be a shift of momentum for the Maroons near the end of the first half, Brian Toโ€™o was sent to the sin bin for making contact with Xavier Coates in the air. However, the Maroons failed to take full advantage of the Blues missing a player for ten minutes.ย

Blues prop Payne Haas was named man of the match for a typically solid performance from the barnstorming Broncos star.

For the Blues, itโ€™s the first time they have won three straight matches since 2006. Itโ€™s also the first time that they have won back-to-back matches at Lang Park in Brisbane.ย

The next two matches of the series will be played in Perth on 18 June and Sydney on 9 July.ย

Womenโ€™s State of Origin

The State of Origin action continues tonight with the third and final match of the womenโ€™s series being played in Newcastle.ย

The Blues have already wrapped up the series after winning the first two matches in dominant fashion (32-12 and 26-6). However, there is plenty of pride on the line as the Maroons seek to avoid a historic whitewash.ย

NSW coach John Strange has named an unchanged side from the one fielded in the opening two matches. Meanwhile, Queensland coach Tahnee Norris has called upon two players to make their Origin debut, fullback Hayley Maddick and substitute half Georgia Hannaway. Maddick will start in place of star player Tamika Upton, who injured herย  hip in Game Two.ย

The Maroons will take confidence in the fact that they won last yearโ€™s match in Newcastle, with Lauren Brown slotting a field goal to help her side claim an 11-10 victory.ย
