Not a bad way to spend Tuesday evening at all.

Australian triathlete Mirinda Carfrae won the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawai’i three times (2010, 2013, and 2014). In 2014, Carfrae pulled off one of the greatest comebacks of all time at the event. She started the final leg (the 42km run), 14 and a half minutes behind the race leader before reeling them in to win the title.

Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Świątek have both claimed their first Cincinnati Open titles. Spain’s Alcaraz won his sixth title this season after world number one Jannik Sinner retired 23 minutes into the opening set of the final due to illness. The loss saw Sinner’s 26-match win streak on hard courts come to an end. Meanwhile, Świątek defeated Italy’s Jasmine Paolini in straight sets to claim her second title of the year after winning Wimbledon last month.

The WNBL, Australia’s professional women’s basketball league, has announced that a Tasmanian team will enter the league in 2026/27 as its ninth team. WNBL CEO Jennie Sager said: “With the new energy, investment, and passion in the WNBL, it is the right time for Tasmania to return to the league. For the first time since 1996, Tasmanian WNBL fans can watch a game in their home state.” The last time Tasmania had a professional women’s basketball team was when the Hobart Islanders played in the league from 1986 to 1996. The league is also searching for a tenth franchise to add to the competition.

The Cronulla Sharks will be without captain Cameron McInnes for the remainder of the season after he ruptured his ACL during the side’s 54-22 victory over the Titans on Saturday. Scans confirmed the injury on Monday. The 31-year-old missed the entirety of the 2021 season, when he was with the St. George Illawarra Dragons, due to a similar injury. The Sharks are seventh on the ladder and will be fighting for a spot in the finals with two regular season matches remaining.

AFL investigation into Izak Rankine underway as Crows finals campaign faces big blow
The AFL is once again confronting the issue of homophobic language, after Adelaide’s Izak Rankine was referred to the league’s Integrity Unit for an alleged slur during Friday night’s match against Collingwood.
Rankine is facing the prospect of a suspension that could see him miss the remainder of the season, a significant blow for the Crows’ finals hopes.
Response
Rankine’s teammate Taylor Walker told radio station Triple M: "He's very remorseful and he understands that he's made a mistake. He'll accept whatever comes his way."
Collingwood vice-captain Brayden Maynard told AAP: "It's happened, what, three or four times now, so we clearly need to stamp it out and I think we're doing a great job of that, I think we're doing as best as we can to stamp all that stuff out of the game.”
Earlier this season, the West Coast Eagles’ Jack Graham was suspended for four games for the same offence.
What’s next?
The investigation into Rankine is ongoing, with the league yet to announce a timeline for a decision.
Adelaide is currently on top of the table and will look to secure the minor premiership when they play North Melbourne (ranked 16th) in the final round of the regular season this weekend.
The Crows will be playing their first finals campaign since 2017.

Western United granted extension for appeal after club license revoked
Football club Western United is facing the possibility of losing its place in the men’s and women’s A-League. Here’s what to know.
Context
On 8 August, Western United, a club based in the western suburbs of Melbourne, had its A-League Men’s and Women’s licences stripped.
A statement from Football Australia said the club: "has failed to meet the criteria required to be granted an A-League license."
The main requirements the club has failed to meet are financial. The club reported a loss of $11 million for the 2023/24 financial year, with liabilities exceeding assets by more than $55 million, according to The Guardian.
This year, players and staff at the club were not paid on time in the months of April, May, and June.
The situation marks a dramatic fall from grace for the club that won the men’s A-League title in 2022.
Football Australia’s statement added: "This outcome, while regrettable, reflects [our] ongoing commitment to upholding the integrity, stability, and fairness of competitions for all clubs, players, and stakeholders."
Western United now has until Thursday to file an appeal. Football Australia will then issue a final verdict on whether the club can retain its place in the competition.
What's next?
If the appeal fails, Western United risks expulsion and potential collapse. Players are being supported by their union, Professional Footballers Australia, as Western United pursues its appeal. The uncertain outcome has also delayed the A-League fixture release for next season.
The fate of the club now rests on the appeal and Football Australia’s final decision.
