Good evening!

At 5:00pm today, Australia’s Diamonds will have the opportunity to reclaim netball’s Constellation Cup when they take on New Zealand in the fourth and final match of the series. Australia leads the series 2-1. The Kiwis are the current holders of the trophy after winning last year’s series 3-1.

Game 4 won’t be easy — the match is being played in Christchurch and the Silver Ferns have beaten the Aussies the last nine times they’ve played in New Zealand, including the third match in this series on Sunday.

If New Zealand do in fact win the match and level the series at 2-2, the two teams will play a series decider consisting of two seven-minute halves immediately afterwards.

As to why it’s called the Constellation Cup, it’s because both countries flags feature the Southern Cross.

The world No.31 lost the first set but came charging back to win in three sets (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) in the second round of the event.  Alex de Minaur, who has reached a career-high ranking of world No.6, is set to take on Canadian Gabriel Diallo in the second round.

Random fact of the day

One of football’s rarest sights is seeing the goalkeeper score, and it’s only ever happened six times in the English Premier League. The list includes Peter Schmeichel (Aston Villa), Brad Friedel (Blackburn Rovers), Paul Robinson (Tottenham Hotspur), Tim Howard (Everton), Asmir Begović (Stoke City), and Alisson Becker (Liverpool).

🏉 The NRL’s plan to buy into the English Super League has taken a major step forward after what both sides described as a “positive” meeting in London, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. Rugby League Commission chair Peter V’landys said talks with Super League clubs and the UK’s Rugby Football League had produced “a road forward” toward a potential ownership and governance arrangement. The NRL is considering purchasing a 33% in the competition as part of its bid to expand rugby league’s global footprint.

🏉 The 2025 AFL Open – an event for footballers with an intellectual disability and wheelchair players – is continuing for a third day in Melbourne, ahead of a series of grand final matches tomorrow. The AFL Open brought together over 200 players from all states and territories for the competition’s second year. The 2025 program included 60 matches, played over four days at the La Trobe University Sports Park. On Tuesday, players from the Victorian Blind League featured in the AFL’s first-ever blind/low vision exhibition match. Head of AFL Victoria Greg Madigan called the AFL Open, “one of our most exciting events on the calendar,” bringing together wheelchair and inclusion competitions, “creating a truly unique opportunity to showcase these versions of our game.”

The Toronto Blue Jays have levelled the World Series at 2-2 with a 6-2 victory in Game 4 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. It comes after a dramatic finish to Game 3 yesterday, where Los Angeles’ Freddie Freeman hit a walk-off home run in the 18th inning (there are usually nine) to win the game. Freeman, who did the same thing in Game 1 of last year’s World Series, is the only player in Major League Baseball’s history to hit two walk-off home runs in the World Series. A walk-off home run is a game-ending homer hit by the home team in the final inning, instantly securing victory and ending the game on the spot. Game 5 will begin tomorrow at 11:00am (AEDT).

Donald Trump’s granddaughter, Kai Trump, will make her LPGA Tour debut next month after receiving a sponsor exemption for the $3.25 million Annika tournament in Florida. The 18-year-old, who will play college golf at the University of Miami next year, is currently ranked 461st in the American Junior Golf Association standings. Tournament organisers said her inclusion will help attract younger fans to the sport, with defending champion Nelly Korda headlining the event. The LPGA Tour is the world’s top professional circuit for women’s golf, featuring elite players competing across major international events.

Australia’s Alana Kennedy is sent off (Getty)

England defeat Matildas 3-0 in game “we want to forget”

England outclassed the Matildas 3-0 in Derby to wrap up the October international window.

Here’s what to know.

What happened

Australia’s night unravelled early when defender Alanna Kennedy was sent off in the 19th minute for denying a goalscoring opportunity, with Chelsea’s Aggie Beever-Jones scoring from the rebound off the resulting free kick.

Lucy Bronze doubled England’s lead before half-time, and Georgia Stanway converted a late penalty to seal the result.

Playing with ten for over 70 minutes, the Matildas struggled to match the European champions’ tempo and spent much of the game defending.

What they said

Coach Joe Montemurro admitted his side’s game plan was in tatters after the red card but said the match offered valuable lessons as Australia builds toward next year’s AFC Women’s Asian Cup on home soil.

After just her second match back, Sam Kerr told Paramount+: "It's tough to go down to 10 men against a good team like England. It's really hard to judge the game because we had such a different plan for the game."

Matildas defender Ellie Carpenter described it as a game "we want to forget."

The Women’s Cricket World Cup semi-finals begin tonight. Here’s your preview.

Four teams remain in the Women’s Cricket World Cup as the first of two semi-finals gets underway tonight (AEDT).

Here’s what to know.

England v South Africa

England and South Africa meet tonight in Guwahati for the first semi-final with a spot in Sunday’s final on the line. England, led by Nat Sciver-Brunt, enter full of confidence after dominating South Africa in the group stage of the tournament. South Africa, captained by Laura Wolvaardt, are chasing their first-ever appearance in a World Cup final.

Historically, England have dominated this matchup, winning 36 of 46 ODIs against the Proteas, including seven of nine meetings at ODI World Cups. They also bowled South Africa out for just 69 runs when the teams met earlier in this tournament.

Australia v India

Australia and India go head-to-head in Mumbai tomorrow night for the second semi-final. Australia, led by Alyssa Healy, are aiming for a record eighth title and come in unbeaten from five completed matches, including a six-wicket win over England and a narrow victory against India earlier in the tournament. In that match, India scored a staggering 330 runs before the Aussies pulled off a record chase.

India have played in two World Cup finals (2017 and 2005) but lost both. They will be desperate to advance to the final and win their first title in front of home fans. Of the six matches they’ve played at this tournament so far, they have won three and lost three.

Historically, Australia have dominated this rivalry, winning 60 of 71 ODIs against India, including 11 of 14 at World Cups. The last time these two teams faced each other in a World Cup knockout match, in the 2017 semi-final, India won by 36 runs.

Format

The tournament is a One-Day tournament. That means that in every match, both teams are given 50 overs (one over is six balls) to score as many runs as possible.

The International Cricket Council has lifted the prize pool to more than $AU21 million, almost four times higher than the last World Cup in 2022. The winners will take home close to $7 million, with the runners-up receiving more than $3 million.

How to watch

Australian fans can watch the semi-finals on Prime Video. First ball of both matches will be at 8.30pm (AEDT).
