Giddey has inked a four-year deal to stay with the Chicago Bulls, while Daniels extended with the Atlanta Hawks for four years after winning the league’s Most Improved Player award last season.

Quote of the day
“It’s interesting how the brain works, I suppose. I think my record when I’m captain is probably better than it is when I’m not… I feel like I kind of go to another level and try to set a standard… I think it’s worked well when I’ve stood in [for Pat Cummins] over the last few years… It’ll just be a seamless transition if that comes around.”
Australian cricket player Steve Smith speaking about his potential role as captain of the Test side in the upcoming Ashes series. Smith is a leading candidate to captain the team for the opening match against England in Perth, given that incumbent skipper Pat Cummins is set to miss at least the first match with a back injury. Smith has an exceptional Test batting average of 56.02 runs. If you only count the matches where he was captain, then his average rises to 68.98.

Random fact of the day
During a one-day international win over Bangladesh last night, the West Indies men’s cricket team became the first to bowl all 50 of their overs with spin and not use fast bowlers at all. The tactic worked as they beat Bangladesh in a dramatic super over after scores were tied. When a limited-overs match (like a one-day international or T20) ends with both teams scoring the same number of runs, each side gets one additional over (six balls) to score as many runs as possible and decide the winner.

🎾 Australia’s top-ranked men’s tennis player, Alex de Minaur, has notched his 300th career win with a straight-sets victory over Austria’s Jurij Rodionov in Vienna. The 26-year-old is only the second player born after 1999, behind Jannik Sinner, to reach the milestone. He said: “It’s been pretty tough on my body but I’m extremely proud of my efforts and hopefully for many more to come.” Meanwhile, 19-year-old Maya Joint has risen to a career-high world No. 32. Joint has overtaken Daria Kasatkina as Australia’s top-ranked women’s tennis player after a year that has seen her win WTA titles in Eastbourne and Rabat.

Australia set to take on England without captain Healy
Australia will meet England tonight in Indore in a much-anticipated Women’s Cricket World Cup clash between the two tournament heavyweights.
Here’s what to know.
What to know
Both teams have already qualified for the semi-finals, but tonight’s result will shape final seedings, with the top three sides separated only by differences in their respective run rates.
Australia is chasing an unprecedented eighth World Cup title and remains unbeaten in four completed matches. Their match against Sri Lanka was washed out. Australia’s captain and the tournament’s leading run-scorer so far, Alyssa Healy, is sidelined with a calf strain. Tahlia McGrath will lead the team in her absence, while Georgia Voll will take Healy’s position in the batting lineup.
England has also won all four of their completed matches, with their match against Pakistan being washed out. Nat Sciver-Brunt’s team is riding some momentum after edging out tournament hosts India by four runs on Sunday.
Head-to-head
Australia have dominated the rivalry, winning 61 of 89 one-day internationals against England, including 13 of 19 at World Cups.
England last beat Australia in a World Cup fixture in 2017.
The first ball is at 8:30pm (AEDT). You can watch it on Prime Video.

Australian team for rugby league Ashes named with four debutants
Australia has announced its team for the first Test of the Rugby League Ashes against England, to be played at Wembley Stadium on Sunday morning (AEDT).
What are the Rugby League Ashes?
The rugby league Ashes is a three-match series between Australia and England, returning for the first time since 2003.
It sits outside the Rugby League World Cup and has been revived to strengthen international competition between the two countries. The last time the two sides met was in the 2017 Rugby League World Cup final, which Australia won 6-0 in a tight contest.
Since the first series in 1908, Australia has won 20 of the 39 rugby league Ashes. England won most of their 19 series in the early decades of the 20th century. From 1973 to 2003, Australia won 13 consecutive series.
Australia names team
Coach Kevin Walters has named four debutants: Brisbane Broncos duo Reece Walsh and Gehamat Shibasaki, Sydney Roosters winger Mark Nawaqanitawase, and South Sydney forward Keaon Koloamatangi.
Walsh will start at fullback after a standout premiership-winning season, while Nawaqanitawase becomes the first Australian man to switch from rugby union to rugby league at Test level since Scott Gourley in 1991. The side will be captained by Penrith Panthers skipper Isaah Yeo. He leads a forward pack including Titans powerhouse Tino Fa’asuamaleaui and the Broncos’ Patrick Carrigan. Panthers star Nathan Cleary and the Storm’s Cameron Munster will form the halves pairing.
Who is on England’s team?
England coach Shaun Wane has selected a mix of NRL and Super League talent, including the North Queensland Cowboys forward John Bateman, Dolphins centre Herbie Farnworth, and Titans playmaker AJ Brimson, who will make his England debut.
The team will be captained by the Warrington Wolves’ George Williams, who will partner Super League grand final winner Mikey Lewis (Hull KR) in the halves.
How to watch
The first Test kicks off at 12:30am (AEDT) on Sunday at Wembley Stadium. It will be broadcast on Channel 9, Kayo, and Foxtel.
The second and third Tests will follow on 2 and 9 November in Liverpool and Leeds, respectively.
