Good evening!
The Aussie women’s cricket team continues to dominate.
Today, they beat New Zealand by eight wickets in the opening T20 of a three-match series. In her 200th international match for Australia, Beth Mooney starred for the Aussies with 75 runs not out.
The next match of the series will be played on Sunday.
Speaking of Sunday, that’s also the day that the Illawarra Hawks and Melbourne United will go head to head in the NBL’s championship decider!

“Everything is there. Everyone knew about it. That was probably one of the most shocking things I heard. It was really disappointing because it's categorically untrue. So I just wanted to clear that up, that the physios 100% knew about my hammy injury… He’s best mates with Peter Dutton, and I’ve never seen Dutton give an apology in 20 years."
Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja in a press conference responding to claims by Queensland Cricket general manager Joe Dawes he was fit to play for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield, but chose not to. Dawes said on Wednesday: "No hamstring issues as far as we are concerned… It's just disappointing he didn't play a game for Queensland when he had an opportunity to." Khawaja confirmed he plans to play for Queensland in next week’s Sheffield Shield final against South Australia.

⚽ The Socceroos are one step closer to World Cup qualification, having beaten Indonesia 5-1 in Sydney last night. After withstanding some early pressure, including a missed penalty from Indonesia’s Kevin Diks, the Aussies took hold of the game with two swift goals in the 18th and 20th minute. Australia extended its lead to 4-0 before Indonesia struck back in the 78th minute when the result was almost beyond doubt. Jackson Irvine was named Player of the Match after scoring two goals. The Socceroos’ next match is against China on Tuesday 25 March.

🏉 Hawthorn remains unbeaten in the AFL after beating Carlton 80-60 last night at the MCG. Carlton’s loss compounds a poor start to the season after losing to Richmond last week. For Hawthorn, it’s the first time the club has opened the season with three wins since 2014, when it won the second of three successive premierships. Tonight, the Western Bulldogs will host Collingwood. The Bulldogs are playing as Footscray Football Club to honour the club’s roots.

🏉 In an NRL grand final rematch on Thursday night, the Melbourne Storm claimed a 30-24 victory over the Penrith Panthers. After colliding with Jahrome Hughes off the ball and sustaining a concussion, Nathan Cleary left the field seven minutes into the match. The Storm streaked to a 14-0 lead in the first 20 minutes, but Penrith dug in and managed to stay in the match for the full 80. Tonight, the Warriors play the Roosters at 6:00pm, followed by a Queensland derby between the Cowboys and Broncos at 8:00pm.

Former swimmer Kirsty Coventry has been voted to become the next President of the IOC (Getty)
The International Olympic Committee has its first female President
Kirsty Coventry has been elected as the 10th President of the International Olympic Committee. The Zimbabwean is the first woman and first African to be elected to the position in the IOC’s 131-year history. She will succeed outgoing President Thomas Bach.
Kirsty Coventry
Coventry is a five-time Olympian and two-time gold medallist, winning the women’s 200m backstroke at the 2004 and 2008 Games.
She joined the IOC Athletes’ Commission in 2013 and retired from swimming following the 2016 Olympics. Coventry has served as Zimbabwe’s Minister of Sport since 2018.
Coventry will serve an eight-year term as the IOC’s President. At 41-years-old, she is also the youngest to ever hold the position.
Coventry said of her appointment: "It's a really powerful signal. It's a signal that we're truly global and that we have evolved into an organisation that is truly open to diversity and we're going to continue."
Voting
After many had expected several rounds of voting, Coventry secured a majority of 49 of the possible 97 votes in the first round. In second place with 27 votes was Spain's Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr, whose father was the 7th IOC President. Despite being considered a frontrunner for the role, British Olympic champion and World Athletics President Sebastian Coe only received eight votes.

The Chinese GP is raced in Shanghai (Getty)
The Chinese GP is this weekend. Here’s your preview
The F1 heads to Shanghai this weekend for the second race of the 2025 season. Here’s what you need to know before the race on Sunday.
Norris and McLaren setting the pace
At the Australian GP, McLaren demonstrated the speed many thought they possessed after pre-season testing in Bahrain. McLaren’s Lando Norris won the race, while his teammate, Aussie Oscar Piastri, was vying for the lead until losing control on the 44th lap and ultimately finishing in ninth.
As a result, Norris sits atop the Drivers Championship, but Piastri’s result means that McLaren is tied with Mercedes in the constructors’ championship.
Norris has played down last week’s victory, telling reporters: "I had one good weekend — people need to calm down a little bit. I'm focused on trying to do the same here.”
Hamilton looks for better start
Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari will be looking to bounce back from a slow start last week. After finishing 10th on debut for Ferrari, Hamilton told reporters: "It went a lot worse than I thought it would go".
Hamilton has the most wins of any driver in Shanghai, winning the Chinese GP a total of six times.
Verstappen at the Chinese GP
Last year’s race was won by Max Verstappen. The Red Bull driver claimed his first Chinese GP dominantly, starting in pole position and beating Norris by 14 seconds.
This is the first time since Monaco in 2022 that Verstappen has not been leading the drivers championship.
Rookies look for redemption
The Chinese GP will also see several rookies who did not finish last week’s race looking to redeem themselves, including Australian driver Jack Doohan. The 22-year-old crashed within the first lap of his home race and is under mounting pressure with talented Argentinian driver Franco Colapinto waiting in the wings as Alpine’s reserve.
VCARB rookie Isack Hadjar also made headlines after crashing out during the formation lap at Albert Park. Images of Hadjar being comforted by Lewis Hamilton's father went viral. Check out TDA Sport's recent interview with Hadjar and his teammate Yuki Tsunda here.
How to watch
The Chinese Grand Prix will begin on Sunday at 6:00pm. Saturday’s schedule will include the Sprint race at 2:00pm and Qualifying at 4:00pm. You can watch Formula One on Foxtel and Kayo.
