Good evening!
Iāve never caught a ball in a crowd at a sports match. Youād have to think it would always be a good thing, right?
Well, it wasnāt for one spectator in the crowd at the Big Bash match between the Brisbane Heat and Adelaide Strikers over the weekend. Lloyd Haskett took a catch from the stands and threw the ball back onto the pitch with no hint of a smile.
Why? Heād just caught a six that had been hit off his son Liamās bowling. It was Liamās debut for the Strikers, and he wasnāt off to the best start.
Liam finished up with two wickets and the Strikers won the match so it wasnāt all bad. They might have already laughed about it.

"I was getting pelted by embers on that first run, so I grabbed my dog and some dog food, and that was it. Could I have stayed 30 seconds longer and maybe got the medals? I wasn't willing to take that risk."

Novak Djokovic is the only player in the Big Three, which includes Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, who has not won a grand slam without dropping a single set. Federer achieved the feat at the 2007 Australian Open and 2017 Wimbledon, while Nadal did it at four French Opens (2008, 2010, 2017, 2020).

Man arrested for allegedly stalking Caitlin Clark
A 55-year-old man has been charged and arrested for allegedly stalking and harassing Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark.
What happened
Police arrested Texas man Michael Lewis at a hotel in Indianapolis. Lewis had allegedly sent Clark threats and sexually violent messages. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday (local time) and is facing up to six years in prison as well as a $US10,000 ($AU16,000) fine.
Clark, who was named WNBA Rookie of the Year in 2024, reported the messages to police and told authorities she felt unsafe. The 22-year-old said she had gone to the lengths of changing her appearance when out in public.
What they said
Marion county prosecutor Ryan Mears said: āIt takes a lot of courage for women to come forward in these cases, which is why many donāt. In doing so, the victim is setting an example for all women who deserve to live and work in Indy without the threat of sexual violence.ā
According to court documents reported by U.S. outlets, one message from Lewis read: āBeen driving around your house 3x a day. But donāt call the law just yet.ā

Nick Kyrgios struggled to find his best in his grand slam return (Getty)
Nine of twelve Aussies advance on Day Two at the Australian Open
Day Two was a largely successful day for the Australians in contention, with nine players winning their opening round matches to advance at their home slam.
Kyrgios and two other Aussies bow out
In his first appearance at a grand slam since 2022, Nick Kyrgios bowed out in the first round, losing in straight sets (7-6, 6-3, 7-6) to Great Britainās Jacob Fearnley. The 29-year-old, plagued by injury in recent years, could not match the world no.86. Fearnley advances to play Franceās Arthur Cazaux in the second round tomorrow.
Kyrgios, a one-time Wimbledon finalist, said in a post-match interview: "Realistically, I can't really see myself probably playing singles again here. I kind of was taking everything in tonight... I didn't want to just throw in the towel and walk off or retire."
Maya Joint and Christopher OāConnell were the two other Australians to lose on Day Two. Teenage rising star Joint came up against seventh-seeded American Jessica Pegula and lost in straight sets (6-3, 6-0). OāConnell showed heart in his match against American twelfth seed Tommy Paul but fell short in the fifth and final set of the match (6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-7, 7-5).
Three Aussie women go through
Talia Gibson, Destanee Aiava, and Ajla Tomljanovic all advanced to the second round of the womenās singles draw on Day Two. 24-year-old Gibson recovered from losing the first set to beat Turkeyās Zeynep Sonmez (3-6, 7-6, 6-1). Destanee Aiava completed a remarkable comeback against Belgiumās Greet Minnen to secure her first win at a grand slam (5-7, 7-5, 7-6). World no.114 TomljanoviÄ is through to the second round for the second straight year after defeating American Ashlyn Krueger (6-4, 4-6, 6-4).
Six Aussie men advance
In the menās singles, six Aussies are through to the second round so far. 21-year-old James McCabe scored his first ever win on the ATP tour beating Spanish qualifier, Martin Landaluce in straight sets (6-4, 6-3, 6-4). Veteran James Duckworth broke a losing streak at grand slams to beat Switzerlandās Dominic Stricker in straight sets (6-2, 6-4, 6-2). Thanasi Kokkinakis, Jordan Thompson, Aleksandar Vukic, and Tristan Schoolkate added to the Australian victories on Day Two. Schoolkate faces a tough assignment in the second round where he will play world number one Jannik Sinner.
Djokovic and Osaka win on Rod Laver
Novak Djokovicās win in four sets (4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2) against American teenager Nishesh Basavareddy marked his first victory with newly appointed coach Andy Murray in his support box. Basavareddy won the first set but could not stop Djokovic from reaching an 18th-consecutive second-round at the Australian Open. The 24-time grand slam champion said of his partnership with Murray: "It's been a really nice experience, hopefully we don't stop here."
Following that match, Naomi Osaka played Caroline Garcia on the same court and won in three sets (6-3, 3-6, 6-3). It was revenge for the four-time grand slam champion after Garcia eliminated Osaka in the first round at last yearās Australian Open.
Today and tonight
Australian qualifier Kimberley Birrell lost her round one match against Germanyās Eva Lys earlier today (6-2, 6-2), as did teenage wild-card Emerson Jones to sixth-seed Elena Rybakina (6-1, 6-1).
Tonight, Australiaās highest-ranked player Alex de Minaur will take on the Netherlandsā Botic van de Zandschulp in Rod Laver Arena at 7:00pm. That match will be followed by Olivia Gadecki playing against Veronika Kudermetova. Also from 7:00pm, 25th seed Alexei Popyrin will play Franceās Corentin Moutet.
