Good evening!
There’s something beautiful about Test cricket commentary.
With Test matches lasting up to five days, and there being plenty of breaks in play, the topic will invariably move away from cricket at some point.
Today, British commentator Jonathan Agnew was talking about the things he’ll miss when he departs Australia.
Here are his top two:
The weather (fair)
Barramundi
The next forty minutes were spent talking more about Barramundi than the cricket. And, yes, it was actually entertaining.

Head reached 100 runs in the first session of day three this morning but was eventually dismissed lbw (leg before wicket) by Jacob Bethell on 163 runs. At the time of writing, the Aussies are 6/429 and lead England by 45 runs.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers, a U.S. college football team, have sold out every home game at Nebraska Memorial Stadium since 1962. It’s a sellout streak that now spans more than 400 consecutive games and has been kept intact even as the stadium expanded from a capacity of around 31,000 to over 85,000.

The Sydney Sixers edged past the Brisbane Heat by three wickets in a low-scoring Big Bash League fixture in Coffs Harbour. The Heat were restricted to 9-114 thanks to wickets from Sean Abbott, Ben Dwarshuis and player of the match Joel Davies. Sydney looked in trouble at 7-56 before Davies and Hayden Kerr steadied the chase with an unbeaten 62-run stand to seal victory with eight balls to spare. The win lifts the Sixers to fourth on the ladder.

The St George Illawarra Dragons have signed Keaon Koloamatangi on a five-year deal starting in 2027. A statement released by the club described it as “one of the biggest signings in the club’s recent history”. The 27-year-old, who currently plays for the South Sydney Rabbitohs, has played six seasons in the NRL and represented NSW, Australia, and Tonga. Koloamatangi will finish the upcoming 2026 season at Souths before linking up with the Dragons.

The NFL regular season ended on Sunday night in the U.S. with the Pittsburgh Steelers defeating the Baltimore Ravens 26-24 and clinching the final spot in the 2025-26 playoffs. Elsewhere in the final round, the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks finished the regular season as the top seeds in the AFC and NFC, respectively. The AFC and NFC are the NFL’s two conferences, with the winners of each meeting in the Super Bowl. The first match of the playoffs will see the Carolina Panthers, who finished the season with a losing record (8-9) play the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday morning (AEDT).

Reuben Amorim has been sacked from his role at Man United (Getty)
Manchester United have sacked their manager midway through the season.
Here’s how it happened.
English Premier League club Manchester United have sacked Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim after just 14 months in the job, following a turbulent period marked by inconsistent results and growing internal tension.
Here is what to know.
What happened
The club confirmed the decision a day after being held to a draw by Leeds United, who sit 16th in the Premier League. In the press conference following the match, Amorim was asked about his job security, to which he responded: "I just want to say I came here to be the manager, not to be the coach. In every department – the scouting department, the sporting director – need to do their job."
The 40-year-old has faced persistent criticism this season over his tactical decisions.
A statement released by United said: “The club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.”
Amorim leaves with United sitting sixth in the EPL after 20 matches, 17 points behind leaders Arsenal. They have won just three of their past 11 games.
What’s next
Assistant Darren Fletcher will take charge on an interim basis as United begin another managerial search. The club will play Burnley (19th) on Thursday morning (AEDT).

Aussies impress at Brisbane International while crucial United Cup match looms for De Minaur
With the main draw of the Australian Open set to begin in less than two weeks, there is plenty of tennis on as the world’s best prepare for the first grand slam of the year.
Here’s what to know.
Brisbane International
The Brisbane International is a professional tennis tournament featuring both men’s and women’s events, played in early January. It serves as a key lead-up event to the Australian Open, giving players a final hit-out before the first Grand Slam of the season.
Australia’s women have made a strong start at the Brisbane International with three players advancing on day two. Teenager Emerson Jones beat world number 43 Tatjana Maria (6-3, 6-3) to reach the second round. The 17-year-old, already holding an Australian Open wildcard, was joined by fellow Aussies Kimberly Birrell and Olivia Gadecki, who also progressed on Monday.
Today, four Aussies (Nick Kyrgios, Ajla Tomljanovic, Rinky Hijikata, Adam Walton) will be in action.
United Cup
The United Cup is a mixed-team international tennis tournament where countries compete across men’s and women’s singles and mixed doubles. It is played in the lead-up to the Australian Open, with ties decided by the combined results across all matches. The tournament is hosted by Sydney and Perth simultaneously.
Alex de Minaur will headline tonight’s match in Sydney when Australia takes on Czechia. In the men’s singles match, De Minaur will play rising star Jakub Mensik as Australia pushes for a quarterfinal spot. De Minaur holds a 4-0 career record over the world number 19, but Mensik arrives in form after defeating Casper Ruud in Czechia’s 3-0 victory over Norway on Monday.
Also today, Canada will take on Belgium, and Italy will face France in Perth.
