Good evening!

Tennis legends Ash Barty and Evonne Goolagong Cawley have joined Margot Robbie as the latest Australians to become immortalised as Barbie dolls.

Mattel is producing one-off dolls in likeness of the Indigenous athletes and friends as part of an International Women’s Day campaign celebrating the ‘power of friendship’.

Truly two of the greatest Australia has seen!

Stat of the day

50,000 and counting…
The total number of career points scored by LeBron James. The 40-year-old became the first player to cross the 50,000-point mark in today’s match against the New Orleans Pelicans. He started the match on 49,999 points and sank a three-pointer to extend the league scoring record he’s held since 2023.

Quote of the day

"I think all we can do is look at what happened and react to it in a better way, in a more positive way, rather than looking back and blaming the situation. It could have been dealt with better, but now it is being dealt with better so for me that's important."
British tennis star Emma Raducanu speaking to BBC Sport about her experience with a stalker at last month’s Dubai Tennis Championships. Raducanu had to pause a match while a “fixated” male spectator was ejected from the venue. The 22-year-old begins her campaign at tennis’ “fifth” slam, Indian Wells, beginning tomorrow.

Random fact of the day

American Bob Beamon set the Olympic and world record for men’s long jump at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. While Beamon’s world record was later broken, the Olympic record of 8.90 metres still stands. The impressive leap is partly attributed to Mexico City’s altitude of more than 2000 metres.

The knockout phase of the Champions League began this morning with the opening leg of the Round of 16. English club Arsenal made an impressive statement with a 7-1 victory over Dutch club PSV Eindhoven — the most goals they’ve scored in a match in 13 years. Real Madrid and Aston Villa both won their opening legs against Atletico Madrid and Club Brugge respectively. Borussia Dortmund drew 1-1 with French club Lille. The Round of 16 sees teams play each other twice, with the winner determined by an aggregate goal score. The other four opening-leg matches will take place tomorrow morning.

Nick Kyrgios secured entry using a protected ranking and will play a qualifier in the opening round. The WNBL Grand Final series begins tonight

The WNBL Grand Final series between the Townsville Fire and Bendigo Spirit begins tonight. Both teams looked unstoppable on the road to the Grand Final, sweeping their respective opponents on the way.

Head to head

This season, the Spirit won all three of its matches against the Fire. The Spirit was the most dominant team in the competition and finished on top of the table with 18 wins from 21 matches. Meanwhile, the Fire finished third with 15 wins.

Australia eliminated by India in ICC Champions Trophy semi-final

Australia lost to India by four wickets in the semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy. The result dashes Australia’s hopes of taking home the title. India will play the winner of tonight’s match between South Africa and New Zealand in the final.

What happened

The Aussies batted first and set a total of 264. Steve Smith (73) and Alex Carey (61) both scored half-centuries. The total was the highest set by any team on the pitch at Dubai International Cricket Stadium this tournament. All of India’s matches have been played in Dubai due to geopolitical tensions with Pakistan, where the rest of the tournament’s fixtures have been played.

India responded strongly with the bat as Australia missed its big three bowling attack of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc. Virat Kohli scored 84 runs and was named the Player of the Match. India eventually reached Australia’s total with 11 balls remaining and four wickets in hand.

What they said

Captain Smith was gracious in defeat, telling reporters: "India obviously played some really good cricket here. The surface kind of suits their style with the spinners that they've got and the seamers that they have at their disposal for a wicket like that. They played well, they outplayed us and they deserve the victory."

Semi-final #2: South Africa v New Zealand

The second semi-final will be played at 8:00pm tonight (AEDT) in Lahore between South Africa and New Zealand. South Africa hasn’t been seriously challenged at the tournament so far, dismantling Afghanistan by 107 runs and beating England by seven wickets. The Proteas’ match against Australia in the group stage was washed out. Meanwhile, New Zealand will be looking to get back to winning form after losing their last group-stage match to India.

The last time these two sides played was three weeks ago. New Zealand won that match but South Africa’s lineup has changed significantly since then.
