Good evening!
After a humbling 1-0 defeat to world No.50 Venezuela over the weekend, the Socceroos will be back in action tomorrow when they take on world No.13 Colombia in New York.
In the history of the Australian men’s team, the Socceroos have only won nine of the 49 matches they have played against South American teams. That’s something coach Tony Popovic is looking to change before next year’s World Cup.
You can catch them in action against Colombia at 12pm Wednesday (AEDT) on Paramount+.

Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) boss Peter V’Landys speaking to 9News, after the Parramatta Eels confirmed star player Zac Lomax has been granted an early contract release. Lomax will “pursue opportunities outside the NRL,” the club said, leading to speculation the winger is considering a move to R360. The ARLC has taken a strong stance on R360, promising players who join the breakaway code that they’ll be banned from the NRL for 10 years.

Scottish sprinter Eric Liddell refused to run his best event, the 100m, at the 1924 Paris Olympics because the heats were scheduled for a Sunday. Liddell was the son of Christian missionaries and held strong religious beliefs. He switched his focus to the 400m instead, and shocked the field by winning gold. Despite barely training for the event, he set a new Olympic record. Liddell’s story is told in the Oscar-winning film ‘Chariots of Fire’.

Melbourne Storm forward Eli Katoa will miss the entire 2026 NRL season as he recovers from head knocks that resulted in emergency brain surgery. The 25-year-old suffered multiple concussions while playing for Tonga, including a collision in the warm-up and two more impacts during the Test against New Zealand. He experienced seizure symptoms on the sideline, was rushed to hospital for surgery on a brain bleed, and has only recently returned to Melbourne. A statement from the club said: “In consultation with our doctor and neuro specialists, Eli will not return to training this pre-season and won’t be available for the 2026 season. He has a long road ahead in his recovery and his focus will be on returning to full health before considering any form of return to training.”

Youtuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul will take the biggest gamble of his boxing career when he faces former heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua in Miami on 19 December. The fight will be streamed globally on Netflix and is a fully sanctioned heavyweight bout, not an exhibition. Paul usually fights around cruiserweight (80-90kg) and has only 12 pro bouts, while Joshua is a two-time unified heavyweight (>90kg) champion with 25 knockouts from 28 wins. Paul said in a statement: "A professional heavyweight fight against an elite world champion in his prime. When I beat Anthony Joshua, every doubt disappears, and no one can deny me the opportunity to fight for a world title.” Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, said: "They say be careful what you wish for, kind of feel like that's all I need to say."

Football star Mary Fowler has been praised by Matildas coach Joe Montemurro, after revealing her struggles with mental health in her new book, Bloom. The 22-year-old writes about how she faced challenges as a teenage athlete in France, including periods of self-harm and suicidal thoughts. Montemurro called Fowler’s honesty “courageous”, saying it highlighted the pressure elite athletes face. Fowler is currently recovering from an ACL tear and will miss Australia’s upcoming friendlies against New Zealand (on 28 November and 2 December), but is expected to be ready early next year ahead of the Asian Cup.

Doggett could make historic Test debut as third Indigenous man to wear Baggy Green
Queenslander Brendan Doggett looks set to make a historic Test cricket debut for Australia. If he is selected as part of the final XI for the opening Test of the Ashes against England in Perth, he will become just the third First Nations man to represent Australia at the Test level.
Here’s what to know.
Doggett
While Doggett’s inclusion is no sure thing until the squad announcement, he looms as the obvious choice to join Australia’s bowling attack for the opening Test — with injuries sidelining fellow fast bowlers Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Sean Abbott.
The 31-year-old was included in a Test squad in 2018 but was not selected to debut. His outstanding form for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield in the past two years, including 11 wickets in last year’s final, was rewarded with his selection in this current squad.
If Doggett is to take to the field on Friday, he will join Jason Gillespie and Scott Boland as the only First Nations men to wear the Baggy Green. Since Boland is also expected to be included, it would also be the first time that two First Nations players have been included in the same side.
What they said
Doggett told cricket.com.au: "I don't know how ready you can be for Test cricket. But the last 18 months to two years for me has easily been the most successful I've been in terms of numbers, but also just confidence in my body, confidence in my game. So I'm as ready as I think I can be and my games at the best as it has been in my career … It definitely feels the closest it's ever been to getting a Baggy Green, but we've obviously got to wait and see."

Oscar Piastri and Layne Beachley honoured with Don and Dawn awards by Sport Australia Hall of Fame
The Sport Australia Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Gala was held in Melbourne on Monday, where Formula 1 driver Oscar Piastri and seven-time World Surfing Champion Layne Beachley were awarded Australia’s most prestigious sporting honours.
Piastri wins Don Award
The Don Award, named after legendary cricketer Sir Don Bradman, is given to an athlete or team “whose achievements over the past year have most inspired the nation.”
This year, it went to Melbourne local and nine-time F1 Grand Prix winner, Piastri. Organisers said: “Piastri is carving out his own legacy, transforming Australia’s Formula 1 aspirations into reality and inspiring the next generation of champions.”
Piastri called it a “massive privilege” to win an award in Bradman’s name.
The 24-year-old is currently second in the Drivers’ Championship, 24 points behind his McLaren teammate, Lando Norris. There are three races left in the F1 season, with the Las Vegas GP set for this Sunday.
Beachley wins Dawn Award
And we can’t forget Layne Beachley. The Aussie icon is this year’s recipient of the Dawn Award. Named after Dawn Fraser, for demonstrating “courage and bravery [that] has changed sport for the better.”
Beachley became an advocate for her sport after being “shocked by the state of women’s surfing” when she joined the pro tour in 1990. “Through compromises, sacrifices and battles, we achieved pay equity in 2018. Now, women can truly aspire to be seen and respected in what was once a male-dominated environment,” she reflected.
The surfing legend said she was “surprised and a little overwhelmed” to receive the Hall of Fame recognition.
Legend status and new inductees
The Gala also saw cricketer Belinda Clark and basketballer Andrew Gaze elevated to Legend status.
Meanwhile, seven new members were inducted, including tennis star Lleyton Hewitt, AFL great Jason Dunstall, netball champion Laura Geitz, NRL legend Cameron Smith, Socceroos record-breaker Mark Schwarzer, Olympic snowboarder Torah Bright, and sports medicine leader Dr Peter Harcourt.
