Patrick Johnson has held the Australian 100m record since 2003. He was the first Australian to break 10 seconds in the event.
23 years on, no one else has matched him.
That could change this weekend. At last week's senior nationals in Sydney, Lachlan Kennedy ran 9.96 twice, while Gout Gout broke Usain Bolt's world under-20 200m record with a time of 19.67 seconds.
Both are now chasing Johnson's mark, and Gout Gout will get his next chance at history tomorrow in the U-20 100m final at the Australian Athletics Junior Championships in Brisbane.
He cruised through his heat today in 10.19 seconds.

Friday’s headlines
Here’s what’s making news today…
🏉 Carlton coach Michael Voss has described midfielder Elijah Hollands as “shattered” with his performance in Thursday night's loss to Collingwood at the MCG. Footage circulated on social media of the 23-year-old appearing out of sorts and seeming to give teammates, opponents and the crowd the middle finger. Hollands ended the game on the bench after contributing one disposal. Coach Michael Voss said the club had to “keep supporting people through those situations”. An AFL spokesperson told The Daily Aus: “We are having ongoing discussions with Carlton and also ensuring Elijah has the relevant support.” Hollands has previously spoken about his mental ill-health and earned his way back onto Carlton's list this summer after being delisted. Collingwood won 88-83 after overcoming an 18-point final-quarter deficit, with Nick Daicos collecting 39 disposals in his 100th game.

🏉 The Manly Sea Eagles defeated the North Queensland Cowboys 38-6 in Townsville on Thursday night to make it three wins from three under interim coach Kieran Foran. Manly halfback Jamal Fogarty controlled the match with two try assists and seven goals, while Haumole Olakau'atu ran for 155 metres. The victory came at a cost for the Sea Eagles with another hamstring injury to fullback Tom Trbojevic, who left the field in the first half. Foran gave an injury update post-match, saying: "He's not looking too good at the moment. We'll get a scan to assess the severity."
🎾 French Open tournament director Amélie Mauresmo has confirmed there will be no camera access in private player areas at this year's tournament. During this year’s Australian Open, U.S. tennis star Coco Gauff was filmed smashing a racket in a tunnel under Rod Laver Arena. The circulation of the footage prompted backlash from players about privacy, with world number two Iga Świątek saying filming in backstage areas made players feel like "animals in the zoo." Mauresmo said players need a protected space and that the tournament's ambition was "not to repeat everything that's done elsewhere." The French Open begins on 24 May.

🏉 Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex will be at Allianz Stadium tonight for the NSW Waratahs' Super Rugby Pacific clash with Moana Pasifika. Rugby Australia CEO Phil Waugh invited the couple, who are visiting Australia for the first time since 2018. It will be 23 years since Harry celebrated England's 2003 Rugby World Cup final victory in Sydney, when Waugh was Wallabies vice-captain. The Rugby World Cup returns to Australia in 2027. The match will kick off at 7:35pm. You can watch Super Rugby Pacific on Stan Sport.
🏊♂️ Olympic champion Libby Trickett has revealed she had a heart attack last year, two months after the birth of her son Archie. Trickett said she recently learned she had a spontaneous coronary artery dissection, where a tear in the artery wall restricts blood flow from the heart. She said the condition carries a risk of recurrence, and that it is “ a really frustrating condition because not a huge amount of research has been put into it”.. She added: “It almost exclusively happens to women under the age of 50. It commonly happens in pregnant women [and] there’s a genetic component”. Trickett was one of Australia’s most successful swimmers, winning 24 international gold medals across world championships, the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics. She also held several world records.

Sport to keep an eye on this weekend…
International Rugby Union: Pacific Four Series
Talking points: The Wallaroos face the U.S. in Kansas City on Saturday, looking to bounce back from a 24-0 loss to Canada in their Pacific Four Series opener last week. The result continued Australia's winless record against the world No. 2 side. New Zealand beat the U.S. 48-15 in Round 1, so both sides will be searching for their first win of the tournament. The final round sees the Wallaroos host New Zealand on the Sunshine Coast on 25 April.
How to watch: The match kicks off at 11am on Saturday (AEST). You can watch the Pacific Four series on Stan Sport and Channel 9.

NRL: Wests Tigers v Brisbane Broncos
Talking points: The Wests Tigers have not played in the NRL finals since 2011, languishing in the lower order of the ladder for over a decade. Now, they are suddenly one of the competition's feel-good stories. Three straight wins for the first time since 2018 have lifted coach Benji Marshall's side to second on the ladder, level on points with Penrith. A fourth consecutive victory this weekend would be a first since 2012. Captain Jarome Luai returns from a knee injury for the clash, adding another dimension to a side already thriving through halfback Adam Doueihi and fullback Jahream Bula. Brisbane, the reigning premiers, arrive 11th on the ladder after a tight loss to the Cowboys last week, and are missing injured stars Reece Walsh and Ben Hunt.
How to watch: The match kicks off at 7:35pm on Saturday. You can watch it on Channel 9, Foxtel, and Kayo.

Elsewhere, the headline matchups include LeBron James' Los Angeles Lakers against the Houston Rockets and the Boston Celtics taking on the Philadelphia 76ers.
