Good evening!

Today was a big day for…

South Australia’s cricket team: The South Australians won their second consecutive Sheffield Shield title, beating Victoria in the final by 56 runs. At the start of the fifth and final day, Victoria needed 94 runs but were stopped well short of the target by South Australia’s bowling attack. Bowler Nathan McAndrew was named player of the match.

College basketballer Braydon Mullins: The 19-year-old scored a three-pointer with 0.3 seconds remaining to help the University of Connecticut upset Duke 73-72. The Huskies now advance to the Final Four of ‘March Madness’, the annual tournament crowning the best college basketball team in the U.S.

Quote of the day

"I want to be here to have fun and have a great time and enjoy myself. At the moment that's not really the case.”
Four-time Formula One world champion Max Verstappen speaking to the BBC after Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix, where he finished eighth. The Dutchman has been openly critical of the 2026 regulations, which require drivers to manage the car’s battery energy and have led to what he has described as a driving experience closer to a video game than racing. Verstappen’s team, Red Bull, has just 16 points after three races.

🏎️ Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli won the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka on Sunday to become the youngest driver ever to lead the F1 drivers’ take championship. The 19-year-old started in pole position but dropped to sixth off the start. A safety car on Lap 22, caused by a heavy crash from Haas driver Ollie Bearman, allowed Antonelli to pit under caution and emerge in first. Antonelli went on to win by 13.7 seconds with McLaren's Oscar Piastri finishing in second. It is the first completed race of 2026 for the Australian after mechanical failures at both the Australian and Chinese grands prix. Antonelli now leads the overall drivers’ championship on 72 points.

🏟️ Sprinter Lachlan Kennedy completed a sprint double at the Maurie Plant Meet in Melbourne on Saturday night, one of Australia's premier track and field events. Kennedy set a new meet record of 10.03 seconds in the 100m before edging teenage sensation Gout Gout in the 200m by five hundredths of a second (20.38 to 20.43). It is the second consecutive year Kennedy has beaten Gout at the event. Both are expected to go head-to-head again at the Australian Athletics Championships in Sydney next month.

Carlton scored the opening seven goals and restricted the Demons to just one goal in the first half. Melbourne then kicked six goals in the third quarter to put themselves back in the match. Kysaiah Pickett starred for the Demons with a career-best 33 disposals and a goal, while captain Max Gawn celebrated his 250th game. Afterwards, Blues coach Michael Voss said: "I'm pretty filthy. We're putting ourselves in great positions and handing it back." Sunday's result is the second time this season (and eighth time in the past two seasons) that the Blues have led at halftime before going on to lose the match.

Tiger Woods arrested after crashing car near his Florida home

Tiger Woods has been charged with driving under the influence after a rollover crash near his home on Jupiter Island, Florida, last Friday afternoon.

Here’s what to know.

What happened

The 50-year-old was driving an SUV when he collided with the back of a trailer being towed by a pickup truck, causing the vehicle to overturn onto its side. He was not injured and managed to crawl out through the passenger door. A breathalyser test at the scene returned 0.00, meaning no alcohol was detected. Woods refused a urine test. Police said they observed signs of impairment, which they believe may have been caused by medication.

Woods was arrested and taken to Martin County Jail, before being released on bail after eight hours in custody. Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek told reporters the crash could have been far worse if there had been oncoming traffic. Woods is facing three misdemeanour charges: DUI with property damage, refusal to submit to a lawful test, and property damage.

Context

Woods' arrest marks the fourth major driving incident involving the champion golfer. In 2009, he crashed into a fire hydrant and a tree outside his Florida home with sleeping pills in his system. In 2017, he was found asleep at the wheel near his Jupiter Island home with several prescription medications in his system and later pleaded guilty to reckless driving. In 2021, a high-speed, single-vehicle crash near Los Angeles left him with severe leg injuries requiring surgical reconstruction.

Woods holds the equal record for PGA Tour career wins, with  82 titles, but has not competed outdoors since the Open Championship in July 2024. Since early 2025, he has been working to recover from a ruptured Achilles tendon and back surgery in time for next month's Masters.

Kieran Foran appointed to coach Manly Sea Eagles after Anthony Seibold sacked

The Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles have sacked head coach Anthony Seibold after an 0-3 start to the 2026 NRL season, replacing him with recently retired halfback and club legend Kieran Foran as interim coach.

Why was Seibold sacked?

The immediate trigger was a 33-16 Round 4 loss to the Sydney Roosters at Brookvale Oval on Thursday night. It was Manly's third consecutive home defeat to start the season. Fans chanted for Seibold's removal during the match.

Club chairman Scott Penn said the decision also reflected dissatisfaction with the back half of 2025, when Manly's form dropped off, and they missed the finals.

Seibold started as coach of the club in 2023 and had just signed a new contract meant to see him through 2027. He is the first Manly coach to depart the role in-season since Bob Fulton in 1999. The 51-year-old finishes his time at Manly with a 37-38 record (two draws).

Who is Kieran Foran?

Foran retired at the end of the 2025 season after 318 NRL appearances and 34 Tests for New Zealand. He played 196 games across two stints at Manly and won the 2011 premiership with the club. He returned to the Sea Eagles as an assistant coach under Seibold for 2026.

At a press conference announcing his appointment, Foran said: "I love this club. I won a premiership here. I have bled for the jersey in maroon and white, and at the end of the day if I can instill a bit of belief and passion into this playing group, then hopefully we can see some results."

What happened in NRL Round 4?

The Penrith Panthers are the only unbeaten team after four rounds following a 48-20 demolition of the Parramatta Eels. The North Queensland Cowboys upset the Melbourne Storm 28-24, and the Wests Tigers stunned the New Zealand Warriors 32-14 in Auckland.

The Gold Coast Titans claimed their first win of the season, beating St George Illawarra 22-14 to leave the Dragons as the only other winless team alongside Manly.

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs' unbeaten start ended with a 24-16 loss to the Newcastle Knights.

Manly's next assignment under Foran is a Friday night clash with the Dolphins in Round 5.
