Good afternoon,
In massive news for Aussie basketball fans, Bryce Cotton is officially a Boomer.
The American-born guard has been playing in Australia's National Basketball League (NBL) since 2017 and is a six-time league MVP.
Cotton became an Australian citizen last year, and is now set to pull on the green and gold for the first time in July, when Australia faces Guam and the Philippines in Perth as part of the FIBA World Cup qualifiers.
Boomers fans, it's time to start dreaming about LA28.
Have a great weekend.

Friday’s headlines
Here’s what’s making news today…
🏉 The NSW Blues won the 2026 Women's State of Origin series 2-0, holding off Queensland 14-10 at Suncorp Stadium on Thursday night. Blues centre Jess Sergis scored the match-winning try just three minutes after the Maroons took their first lead of the match. Back-up winger Teagan Berry then sealed the series with a desperate cover tackle on Maroons winger Jasmine Peters with 24 seconds remaining. NSW halfback Jesse Southwell was named player of the match. Game three is at Cbus Super Stadium on the Gold Coast on 28 May.

🏉 The Geelong Cats beat the Brisbane Lions by 41 points at the Gabba on Thursday night in the Sir Doug Nicholls Round opener, the first meeting between the two sides since last year's grand final. Geelong forward Shaun Mannagh kicked five goals while teammate Bailey Smith collected 34 disposals as the Cats led from the first quarter and pulled away in the second half. The result lifts Geelong (3rd) above Brisbane (6th) on the ladder and ends the Lions' three-match winning streak. The Sir Doug Nicholls Round, the AFL's annual celebration of Indigenous players and culture, continues tonight as the Sydney Swans host the Collingwood Magpies at the SCG.

Matildas captain Sam Kerr will leave English club Chelsea at the end of the season, ending six-and-a-half years with the Women's Super League powerhouse. The 32-year-old striker has scored 115 goals in 157 appearances and won five WSL titles, three FA Cups, and three League Cups at the club. Kerr is one goal shy of Chelsea's all-time goalscoring record (across all competitions), held by Fran Kirby, and could match or break it in her final match against Manchester United on Saturday. While no official announcement regarding Kerr’s next move has been made, the Matildas captain has been linked with a move to the Denver Summit, in the U.S’ women’s professional football league.

🎾 World number one Jannik Sinner has broken Novak Djokovic's record for the longest winning streak at the ATP Masters 1000 level. The Italian claimed his 32nd consecutive win at that tier with a straight sets (6-2, 6-4) quarter-final victory over Andrey Rublev at the Italian Open. Sinner, who will face Russian Daniil Medvedev in the semi-final, has not lost a Masters match since October 2025. He could complete the Career Golden Masters this weekend by winning the Rome title, becoming the second man after Djokovic to win all nine Masters events.

Golf: PGA Championship

Min Woo Lee has put himself in contention for a major title after the opening round of the PGA Championship (Getty)
Talking points: The second major of the men's golf year continues at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania, with the final three rounds to be played over the weekend. Australian Min Woo Lee hit his lowest ever score (67) in the opening round of a major and is one of seven players (including defending champion and American world number one Scottie Scheffler) tied for first place after the opening round. Scheffler is chasing his fifth major title. Meanwhile, fellow Aussies Jason Day and Cam Smith are just two shots off the lead and still very much in contention.
How to watch: The first group of golfers will tee off at 8:45pm tonight (AEST). You can watch the PGA Championship on Foxtel and Kayo.
NRL: Magic Round

Latrell Mitchell will be back in action on Friday night for the Rabbitohs (Getty)
Talking points: Every NRL team except Canberra (which has a bye) heads to Brisbane this weekend for Magic Round, the festival where all eight round 11 fixtures are played at Suncorp Stadium across three days. Last year's edition drew just under 150,000 fans, with about 40% travelling from interstate or New Zealand. Sunday's closer pits the top-of-the-ladder Penrith Panthers, premiers in four of the past five seasons, against the bottom-placed St George Illawarra Dragons, who are yet to win a game this year and sacked head coach Shane Flanagan in April. South Sydney's Latrell Mitchell returns from injury to face the Dolphins on Friday night.
How to watch: The opening match of the round, between the Sharks and Bulldogs, will kick off at 6pm tonight (AEST). You can watch the NRL on Channel 9, Fox League, and Kayo.
A League Women: Grand Final

Talking points: Melbourne City will face Wellington Phoenix in the A-League Women Grand Final at AAMI Park on Saturday afternoon. City enters as the league favourites after finishing the season on top of the ladder for the third year in a row. Wellington are in their first-ever finals series since joining the competition in 2021, marking the first time New Zealand has entered an A-League Grand final appearance in either the men’s or women’s competition. City welcomes back winger Danella Butrus after she cleared concussion protocols, while the Phoenix enter the decider with a settled squad. As the Phoenix aim to make history, coach Bev Priestman says her side must seize the moment after a record-breaking season, saying it is “five years in the making.” City has won all eight previous meetings, including January’s most recent clash.
How to watch: You can catch the kick off at 4:15pm on Saturday (AEST). The match is live on Paramount+ and 10 Drama.
