Happy Friday!
The Super Bowl is on Monday, so here’s an obscure stat for you to tell people over the weekend.
This year marks the 60th edition of the NFL’s championship game. Only four people have attended all 59 Super Bowls held since 1967.
All four of them will extend that streak to 60 when the New England Patriots play the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX.
Who are the four, you ask? Three of them are octogenarian fans part of the ‘Never Miss a Super Bowl Club’ (Tom Henschel, Gregory Eaton, and Don Crisman), and one is 74-year-old photographer John Biever, who has worked at every Super Bowl.
Respect.

Friday’s headlines
Here’s what’s making news today…
🏉 France opened their Six Nations title defence with a commanding 36-14 win over Ireland in Paris on Thursday night (local time). France came out of the blocks firing and led 22-0 at half-time. French winger and last year’s player of the tournament Louis Bielle-Biarrey starred, scoring twice. Ireland worked their way back into the match via two breakthrough tries to Nick Timoney and Michael Milne, but France sealed the result late to claim a bonus-point victory in the tournament opener.

🏈 The San Francisco 49ers have been announced as the team to take on the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL’s first regular-season game played in Australia, set for later in 2026 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The West Coast rivals were confirmed as the match-up today, after the league signed a multi-year deal to bring games to Melbourne. No date has been announced, but the fixture will mark another major milestone in the NFL’s global expansion.

🏂 Australian snowboarder Valentino Guseli has turned a last-minute opportunity into a spot in the Big Air final at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. The 20-year-old was handed a wildcard entry after Canada’s Mark McMorris withdrew injured. Needing to finish within the top 12 to qualify for the final, Guseli landed a huge final run to finish 12th and advance. Originally only set to compete in the halfpipe competition from 13 February, he will now contest the final of the Big Air at 5:30am on Sunday (AEDT).

Sport to keep an eye on this weekend…
Winter Olympics: Milano Cortina 2026
Talking points: The Winter Olympics begin with the Opening Ceremony in Milan at 6m tomorrow (AEDT), kicking off 17 days of Olympic competition across northern Italy. Australia is sending 53 athletes, with 28 making their Olympic debut. The standouts include 16-year-old Indra Brown, the world number one in freeski halfpipe and a genuine medal contender, reigning moguls champion Jakara Anthony chasing back-to-back gold medals, and snowboarder Scotty James, competing at his fifth Games. It's Australia's second-largest Winter Olympic team ever.
How to watch: The competition will start around 8pm every night and runs until 22 February. You can watch on Channel 9, 9Now, and Stan Sport.

International Netball: Australia v Jamaica (Game Two)
Talking points: Australia’s Diamonds opened their three-Test series against Jamaica with a dominant 72-41 win in Adelaide last night. The world number one side will look to back up that result on Sunday in the second match of the series on Sunday in Perth. The series is set to help both teams prepare for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in June. Australia are the defending champion at the games after they defeated Jamaica in the final in 2022.
How to watch: The second test will start at 7:30pm on Sunday. You can watch it on Kayo (free), Foxtel, and Binge.

Super Bowl: Seattle Seahawks v New England Patriots
Talking points: Two teams that missed last year's playoffs will contest Super Bowl LX on Sunday night, with the Seattle Seahawks taking on the New England Patriots at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. The Patriots are chasing their seventh Super Bowl title, while Seattle is seeking their second. These teams last met in the 2015 Super Bowl classic, when the Patriots dramatically intercepted Seattle at the goal line to claim victory in the final moments of the match. Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold will be eager to banish old demons against New England, having struggled badly in previous meetings. Patriots quarterback Drake Maye had a brilliant regular season but has faltered in the playoffs with five turnovers.
How to watch: The Super Bowl will kick off at 10:30am on Monday (AEDT). You can watch it live on ESPN (via Disney+, Kayo, or Foxtel) or 7Plus.
