Good afternoon,
One in 72 billion.
They are the odds that a golfer hits an albatross (three shots under par) and a hole-in-one on consecutive holes.
A golfer in Sydney by the name of Kris Clelland defied the odds and managed just that on the weekend.
In a post on social media, Clelland said: “What a strange old day on the course…”
Luckily, he was playing with friends!

The number of wickets Australian bowler Scott Boland took during the rain-shortened opening day of the second Test against South Africa at St George’s Park in Gqeberha. Boland dismissed batters Aiden Markram (11 runs) and David Bedingham (0 runs) as only 12 overs were possible due to the weather. The match is scheduled to resume tonight at 6:30pm (AEDT) when South Africa’s Marques Ackerman and captain Temba Bavuma head into bat with the Proteas at 2/20 in the first innings.

“[Brighton fans] shouldn’t look at the table. They should enjoy the night today without a mobile phone, enjoy a beer or something else and enjoy wearing the Seagulls’ colours.”
The manager of English Premier League football team Brighton, Fabian Hürzeler, speaking after his side defeated Crystal Palace 5-0. The result moved the Seagulls provisionally into second on the Premier League ladder with five wins, one draw, and one loss from seven matches. Later, Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest saw the Gunners move back into second, and Brighton slip to third. The highlight of Brighton’s win was this Diego Gómez goal from 51.3 metres out.

🏏 Australia won the first women’s T20I against New Zealand by two wickets at North Sydney Oval on Sunday night. New Zealand batters Georgia Plimmer (85 not out) and Maddy Green (56 not out) helped the White Ferns set a total of 162 runs. Australia’s Beth Mooney (38 runs) and Ellyse Perry (52) got the Aussies off to a strong start but, after losing three wickets in quick succession, they only narrowly got home with two wickets in hand and seven balls remaining. It puts Australia 1-0 up in the five-match Rose Bowl series, with the second T20I at the same venue on Tuesday.

🏀 A ruptured Achilles at practice has cut short Sacramento Kings guard Ben Simmons’ latest comeback attempt, days ahead of the NBA season opener. The Australian had signed with the Kings after more than a year out of the league and was set to feature this season, but will now miss the entire 2026-27 campaign, marking another setback for the 2016 No.1 draft pick.

New Zealand win Constellation Cup opener in Auckland
The Silver Ferns have won the opening Test of the Constellation Cup, beating the Australian Diamonds 56-50 in Auckland on Sunday night.
Here’s what to know.
What is the Constellation Cup?
It’s the annual trans-Tasman netball series between New Zealand and Australia, contested since 2010. The format of the series is four Tests. If both teams win two each, then the winner is determined by an extra time period at the end of the fourth Test.
Australia has won the Cup 12 times to New Zealand’s three and are the current holders, having taken the Cup back from New Zealand in 2025.
How did the first test unfold?
New Zealand were led by shooter Grace Nweke, who finished with 40 goals from 41 attempts. Australia trailed by as much as 15 points but fought back to win the final quarter 17-10.
It wasn’t enough to prevent an 11th straight loss for Australia on New Zealand soil.
Meanwhile, Diamond Courtney Bruce became the seventh player to play 100 matches for Australia.
What’s next?
The four-Test series continues with the second match on Wednesday night in Christchurch. The final two matches of the series will be played in Sydney and Melbourne.

Rugby League World Cup: What happened in Round One?
The Rugby League World Cup’s first round is complete across Sydney, Perth, Newcastle and Port Moresby, with ten men’s teams and eight women’s teams opening their 2026 campaigns.
Men’s round one
After defending champions Australia survived a 24-22 thriller against New Zealand in the tournament opener on Thursday night, the opening round saw four more matches played across the weekend.
Samoa produced the standout performance of the round, beating France 78-4 on Friday night. Samoa’s Su’a Fa’alogo came off the bench after Deine Mariner went down injured and made the most of it, scoring four tries and setting up three more.
On Saturday, co-hosts Papua New Guinea beat Lebanon 42-18 in Port Moresby to open with a win, and Tonga handed England a 30-12 defeat, their biggest statement win yet over a top-level rugby league nation. Led by playmaker Isaiya Katoa, Tonga started the match as underdogs, with just one win from their past nine matches.
On Sunday, Fiji eased past the Cook Islands 40-12 in Newcastle behind five combined try assists from halves Kurt Donogohoe and Brandon Wakeham.
Women’s round one
The Jillaroos opened their title defence with a 40-0 demolition of tournament debutants Samoa in Sydney. New halves pairing Jocelyn Kelleher and Tarryn Aiken combined to set up three tries between them, with Kelleher being named player of the match on her Jillaroos debut.
On Saturday, Papua New Guinea handed France a 58-4 thumping, with Naomie Kelly scoring four tries for the Orchids in Port Moresby. Then, England produced a similarly dominant performance against debutants Wales in Perth, winning 70-6. Fullback Isabel Rowe scored 26 points with two tries and nine goals.
On Sunday, New Zealand held on to edge past Fiji 18-12 in Newcastle, avoiding an upset against a Fijian side playing just the ninth match in its history.
What’s next?
The second round of both tournaments will continue on Friday evening, with Tonga taking on Lebanon in the men’s competition and Samoa playing Wales in the women’s.
