TGIF team,
Tonight, Wallaroos veteran Emily Chancellor will play her 42nd and final Test match for Australia, after announcing her retirement last week.
The 35-year-old didn’t take up rugby union until she was 21, but has since played in two World Cups and captained the team in 2025.
Speaking at an emotional press conference yesterday, Chancellor said: “I know that not many people get an opportunity to make this decision themselves. So, I’m really proud to be able to walk away on my terms.”
The Wallaroos will face Scotland tonight in Canberra at 7:30pm (AEDT).

Friday’s headlines
Here’s what’s making news today…
🏏 Australian bowler Megan Schutt has been suspended for two matches after breaching Cricket Australia’s prescription medication protocols. Cricket Australia determined that the breach occurred out of competition and was not performance-enhancing. The 33-year-old missed Thursday’s final T20I against New Zealand at North Sydney Oval, which was rained out anyway, and will also sit out the Adelaide Strikers’ WBBL opener on 31 October.

🏀 The Atlanta Dream have moved to within two wins of a WNBA championship, beating the Golden State Valkyries 97-71 to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven finals. Angel Reese posted her third double-double of the series, finishing with 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Australian guard Izzy Borlase added 12 points and five rebounds off the bench. Game four is in Atlanta on Sunday (AEDT).

🏏 The Test series between South Africa and Australia is now drawn at 1-1 after the Proteas won the second Test by an innings and 31 runs. After being forced to follow-on, Australia could only hope for a draw by batting through Day 5. South Africa’s bowling attack again proved too much for Australia’s batters. Travis Head provided some resistance as he notched his 13th Test century before finally being dismissed for 121 runs. South African captain Temba Bavuma was named player of the match for his impressive 189-run knock, which helped put his team in the winning position. The third and final Test will be played in Cape Town.

⚽ The ParaMatildas are through to the final of the International Federation of Cerebral Palsy Football World Cup after defeating Finland 10-0 in the semi-final. The ParaMatildas, who are the tournament’s defending champions, are Australia’s football team for women with cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury, or symptoms of stroke. Carly Salmon and Annmarie De Uriarte starred for Australia in the semi-final victory with four goals apiece. The final will see the ParaMatildas take on tournament hosts the U.S. in Atlanta tomorrow morning (AEDT). You can watch it on SBS On Demand or the IFCPF YouTube channel here.

Sport to keep an eye on this weekend…
Rugby League World Cup: Kangaroos and Jillaroos
Talking points: The Rugby League World Cup resumes this weekend, with Australia’s women facing England on Saturday in Perth and the men taking on Fiji in Brisbane on Sunday. The Jillaroos are heavy tournament favourites and will look to build on last week’s 40-0 win over Samoa. Coach Jess Skinner will hand debuts to Makenzie Weale and Olympic Rugby Sevens star Sariah Paki. England also made a strong start to the tournament with a 70-6 victory against Wales. The last time the two teams met was in Las Vegas in 2025 when the Jillaroos won 90-4. Meanwhile, Kangaroos coach Kevin Walters has made some changes to the side that edged past New Zealand 24-22 last week, naming James Tedesco, Bradman Best, and Sam Walker for their first appearances of the tournament. Roosters premiership-winning captain Tedesco will lead the side for the first time since 2023, while Best and Walker are set for Test debuts. Fiji, led by Wests Tigers captain Api Koroisau, will come in as underdogs against the reigning champions but will take confidence from a 40-12 win against the Cook Islands last week.
How to watch: Matches run Friday to Sunday. Australia’s women play England on Saturday at 8.05pm (AEDT); the men face Fiji Sunday at 8.05pm. You can watch the Rugby League World Cup on Channel 7.

International Netball: Constellation Cup
Talking points: After two losses on New Zealand soil, the Diamonds must win Sunday’s third Test in Sydney to keep their hopes of retaining the Constellation Cup alive. The home advantage plays a significant role in the trans-Tasman series, with the home team having won 18 of the past 20 matches. If Australia wins the next two matches and the series is drawn at 2-2, the winner will be determined by goal percentage (the difference between goals scored and conceded). While New Zealand’s priority will be to reclaim the Cup, a 4-0 series sweep for the Silver Ferns would also see them move into the world number one ranking for the first time since 2013. As for the bigger picture, this series is the last opportunity the Diamonds will have to play together against strong international opposition before hosting the 2027 Netball World Cup.
How to watch: The third Test will start at 4pm on Sunday (AEDT). You can watch the Constellation Cup on Kayo for free.

Formula One: U.S. Grand Prix
Talking points: Formula One heads to Austin, Texas for the United States Grand Prix on Sunday (Monday morning AEDT), with Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli sitting 102 points clear of teammate George Russell and poised to become the youngest world champion in F1 history. That could happen as soon as this weekend if he wins, Russell finishes ninth or lower and Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton finishes fifth or lower. Meanwhile, Australian Oscar Piastri has had a tough season. The McLaren driver is seventh in the overall standings and over 200 points off the pace. Circuit of the Americas has a habit of throwing up surprises, and with no sprint race this weekend, Saturday’s qualifying looms as the key session before Sunday’s race.
How to watch: The main race will begin at 7am on Monday (AEDT). You can watch Formula One on Kayo and Foxtel.
