Good evening!
Some moments in sport slip past the wider conversation, even when they deserve a little more light.
Australian fast bowler Darcie Brown pointed that out this week, asking if it is “any danger for the main media” to report on the women’s T20 World Cup.
Luckily, we’ve got you covered at TDA Sport. Scroll down for the latest on Australia’s semi finals match tonight (!!!).

The number of premiership matches Jason Taumalolo has played, making him the 56th player in history to reach the milestone and the first of Tongan heritage to do so. He is also the first player to reach 300 first grade appearances for the Cowboys, reflecting a career that spans a premiership, major awards and a central role in Tonga’s rise in rugby league. Over the weekend, Tonga’s Princess Angelika Lātūfuipeka Tuku‘aho and Prime Minister Lord Fakafanua attended the Cowboys’ 26-12 win over Penrith to honour his milestone.

Quote of the day
“It's something we as a club got wrong. We had good intent but if we had our time again I think we would acknowledge that was a mistake and we probably shouldn't have done that.”
Melbourne coach Steven King speaking to Seven after the club settled with Sachi Dade, the partner of retired Demons player Steven May. Dade launched a Federal Court case earlier this year against the club, King, and Demons football boss Alan Richardson alleging three privacy breaches, one of which involved a Microsoft Teams meeting with 15 attendees. The club acknowledged senior leaders had disclosed “personal and sensitive information” about Dade.

In Snoop Dogg’s 2004 track Signs, he says: “You will see Venus and Serena in the Wimbledon arena.” At the time, the pair had won six doubles Grand Slam titles, including two at Wimbledon, and would go on to win another eight. In total, they have won six Wimbledon doubles titles, and are going back for another try at this year’s tournament – their first time together since the 2022 U.S. Open.

🏉 Triple AFLW premiership player Chelsea Randall has retired effective immediately after specialists advised her to stop playing due to ongoing concussion issues. The 35-year-old Adelaide defender says two recent training knocks left her with “starry vision,” leading to the decision. Speaking to media yesterday, she added: “With the new evidence with my recent experiences at training and the expert recommendations, I have no choice”. Randall missed seven games last season with concussion but returned for Adelaide’s semi-final loss to Melbourne. She finishes with 80 games, five All-Australian selections and a legacy as one of the AFLW’s trailblazers.

⚽ New York women’s soccer team Gotham FC have secured Matildas captain Sam Kerr on a deal through 2030. It brings one of the most decorated forwards in world football back to the club where she became the U.S. National Women’s Soccer League’s all time leading scorer (under its old name Sky Blue FC). Kerr says she is “incredibly excited to return”, joining in July after she left Chelsea in May. She arrives with five WSL titles, 116 goals for Chelsea and two NWSL MVPs.

Brazil, Paraguay and Morocco advance to the Round of 16
Here’s the latest on the FIFA World Cup.
Today’s results
Early this morning, Brazil came from behind to beat Japan 2-1. Casemiro’s second-half header levelled the match before Gabriel Martinelli scored the winner in stoppage time. Japan pushed Brazil deep into additional time, but their World Cup campaign came to an end.
Germany and Paraguay drew 1-1 before Paraguay advanced on penalties. Goalkeeper Orlando Gill saved two spot kicks, while Jose Canale converted the decisive penalty to send Paraguay through to the next round. German forward Kai Havertz said: “This is my second World Cup and both times it came to nothing.”
Meanwhile, Morocco advanced after a dramatic 3‑2 penalty shootout win over the Netherlands. Issa Diop forced extra time with a 91st minute equaliser before goalkeeper Yassine Bounou made the decisive save in sudden death. Ismael Saibari then converted the winning penalty to seal Morocco’s place in the next round, where they will face Canada on Saturday (same day as the Socceroos).

A shooting at San Jose’s World Cup fan zone left one person dead and another in hospital with life threatening injuries. No matches were being shown at the time. Police are treating the incident as a homicide and are continuing to search for the suspect.
In other news, another coaching departure has followed the group stage, with Czechia boss Miroslav Koubek resigning after his side’s elimination.
Who plays tomorrow?
There are three games tomorrow. Côte d'Ivoire takes on Norway, France takes on Sweden, and Mexico play Ecuador.

Wimbledon is underway. Here’s what to know.
Wimbledon began last night.
Here’s what you need to know about the grass-court grand slam and third tennis major of the year.
Our Aussies
The Australian contingent began with 13 players across the men’s and women’s singles draws.
In the men’s, Aleksandar Vukic and Adam Walton were knocked out on day one, while Rinky Hijikata’s match against Dutch player Jesper de Jong was stopped because of rain, although he has taken the lead (6-7(4), 6-4, 5-3). He will resume play at 9:30pm tonight.
Alex de Minaur, Thanasi Kokkinakis, Dane Sweeny, James Duckworth, and Alexei Popyrin are also set to play tonight.
Over in the women’s draw, Daria Kasatkina beat Welsh wildcard Mimi Xu in three sets to reach the second round. It was her first win of the grass court season and Australia’s first victory at Wimbledon.
Kimberly Birrell, Talia Gibson, Ajla Tomljanović, and Maya Joint will play overnight. Joint faces seven-time Wimbledon singles champion Serena Williams tomorrow morning.
Williams began her comeback at the Queens Club earlier this month after almost four years away from the sport.
What else is going on?
British No.1 Emma Raducanu withdrew from the tournament due to a stress fracture on the weekend, saying she had been “medically advised to stop pushing through”. It comes weeks after she reached the final at the Queen’s Club tournament. The 23-year-old has never progressed past the round of 16 at her home Grand Slam.
Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic opened his 21st Wimbledon campaign with a four set win over China’s Wu Yibing (6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4). Djokovic is chasing the all-time Open era Grand Slam singles titles record, having equalled Margaret Court with 24 at the 2023 U.S. Open. Since then, he’s progressed to the finals of two Grand Slams (Wimbledon 2024, Australian Open 2026), but fallen to Carlos Alcaraz both times.
Alcaraz is skipping this year’s tournament as he recovers from a wrist injury. Could it be Djokovic’s chance? We’ll have to wait and see. His likeliest opponent in the semi-finals is Jannik Sinner, who defeated him in the same spot at Wimbledon last year.
You can watch Wimbledon on Nine and Stan Sport.
