Over the weekend, the 19-year-old Socceroo came off the bench for Hull as his side eked out a 2-2 draw with EPL powerhouse Chelsea. Hull City are now unbeaten through four matches and sit third on the ladder, behind Arsenal and Manchester City.

The number of points that Italian F1 driver Kimi Antonelli leads the Drivers’ Championship by after winning the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid on Sunday. The victory marked Antonelli’s eighth win in 14 races this season as Red Bull’s Max Verstappen finished second and McLaren’s Lando Norris finished third. With 10 races left on the F1 calendar, the 20-year-old is on track to become the youngest ever world champion. The current record holder is Sebastian Vettel, who was 23 when he won his first world title.

The athlete, Australian world record holder Joanna Wietrzyk, posted a story to Instagram after the event with a photo of her attached to an IV drip and the caption: “Go hard or go home… a win is a win. In all seriousness, thank you for all the support. I’ll be back soon x.” That story has since been deleted. The incident has sparked online debate about whether or not the event’s organisers should have allowed Wietrzyk to continue to compete.

Australian Ben Graham is the only person to have played in both an AFL Grand Final and the Super Bowl. Graham played 219 matches for the Geelong Cats, before moving to the U.S. to pursue a career in American football. He reached the Super Bowl as a punter for the Arizona Cardinals in 2009.

🎾 Germany’s Alexander Zverev won the U.S. Open men’s singles title on Sunday in New York, defeating American Ben Shelton in four sets (6-3, 7-6, 5-7, 6-2). It marks Zverev’s second career Grand Slam victory after he won the French Open in June. On Saturday, Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina beat Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka in three sets (6-4, 5-7, 6-2). Rybakina is now also ranked world No. 1 ahead of Sabalenka following her success at the fourth and final major of the year.

🏉 In the NRL on Sunday, the minor premiership-winning Penrith Panthers beat the Sydney Roosters 19-12 to secure their spot in a preliminary final in two weeks. The Panthers, chasing a sixth grand final appearance in seven years, will face a nervous wait after star playmaker Nathan Cleary was charged with dangerous contact. Earlier in the weekend, the Newcastle Knights knocked out the South Sydney Rabbitohs (20-10) and the Cronulla Sharks beat the North Queensland Cowboys (26-16) in their respective elimination finals. The Dolphins also secured their spot in the preliminary finals with an upset victory over the New Zealand Warriors (26-16) in Auckland.

🏉 The North Melbourne Kangaroos extended their AFLW winning streak to 32 matches on Sunday, beating Carlton by 10 points. The Kangaroos have not lost a match since the club’s 2023 grand final loss but were threatened by the Blues, who held a three-point lead midway through the second quarter but ultimately lost 33-23. Also on Sunday, the Sydney Swans won the Sydney Derby with a 87-56 victory over the GWS Giants and the Melbourne Demons maintained their unbeaten record this season with a dominant 74-23 win against Port Adelaide.

🚴 Spanish cyclist Enric Mas won the Vuelta a España in front of a home crowd on Sunday, claiming his first ever Grand Tour victory. Norway’s Tobias Johannessen won the 21st and final stage of the race but Mas maintained his overall lead. He finished over two minutes ahead of Slovenia’s Primož Roglič, a four-time winner of the race. Mas, 31, moved into the lead on Stage 9 after five-time Tour de France winner Tadej Pogačar crashed out on Stage 8.

The Adelaide Crows have reported an incident of online abuse of two of its players to South Australian Police.

On Sunday, Dawson shared a screenshot of a message sent to him on Instagram, commenting: “There is absolutely no place for this in the world, be better”.

The message referenced self-harm and was sent to Dawson following the Crows’ semi-final loss to the Brisbane Lions. Dawson has been an outspoken advocate for mental health support following the death of his brother earlier this year.

The Crows said that Dawson’s teammate, Callum Ah Chee, had also been the subject of online racial abuse after the match.

In response, the club has said it will report both instances of abuse to South Australian Police and the AFL’s Integrity Unit. A statement from Crows CEO Tim Silver added: “Unfortunately, this disgusting and disturbing behaviour is becoming more common.”

The Crows’ 144-91 loss to the Brisbane Lions on Saturday brought an end to Adelaide’s season. The Lions will now play Hawthorn in next week’s preliminary final. Brisbane are chasing a third straight premiership and fourth consecutive grand final appearance.

Meanwhile, the Fremantle Dockers defeated the Geelong Cats 120-106 on Friday night to advance to a preliminary final against the Sydney Swans.

A sports betting ad featuring American actress Sydney Sweeney has drawn global backlash from female athletes, with Australian Olympians Ariarne Titmus and Tilly Kearns among those condemning the advertisement.

The campaign for U.S. company Novig shows Sweeney posing almost nude with different pieces of sporting equipment.

Novig is a U.S. sports prediction market, where users bet against each other.

Novig CEO Jacob Fortinsky told Front Office Sports Sweeney personally approached him about a stake in the company, and is now a shareholder alongside her role in the advertising campaign. In February, the company was valued at $US500 million ($AU750 million).

U.S. gymnast Gracie Kramer was one of the first high-profile female athletes to respond, posting a clip with a caption saying: “idk what Sydney Sweeney was doing, but this is what a woman in sport looks like”. The trend has since spread among elite female athletes worldwide, all sharing footage of themselves competing.

Titmus, a four-time Olympic swimming champion, posted on her Instagram story: “How do we live in a world where monetising a woman’s body and sexualising women’s sport is still a thing?”. Titmus also questioned what the ad teaches young people about women in sport.

Kearns, part of the Aussie women’s water polo side that won silver at the Paris Games in 2024, posted a montage of her sporting career with the caption: “Like what are we doing … so much worse than I imagined too. Here’s some real women sports content.”

Speaking to TDA about the sexualisation of women’s sport, Kearns said:  “It's something that I've spent my career trying to push back against. On my platforms, I try to very much steer away from the sexualisation. I know it exists, but, I think it's part of my duty to just make what I do about the sport and all the great things that come with the sport.”

In an apparent reply to the widespread criticism, Sweeney posted images to her Instagram stories from ESPN’s Body Issue, a feature that runs nude photos of elite athletes.

She posted images of tennis champion Serena Williams, former UFC fighter Ronda Rousey, and NFL player Myles Garrett, ending with a photo of herself from the campaign.
